Nicolas Engel

Born in France in 1980, Nicolas Engel grew up in Hong Kong and London, where he developed a taste for musicals. In 2005, he directed his first musical short, The Sailboats of The Luxembourg (Les films du Bélier / ARTE – 2006 Bronze Bear award at the Nations Festival, Ebensee). He has taken his work in the musical genre to a new level with Copy of Coralie (Crescendo films / ARTE). Premiered in the competition of the Critic’s week – 2008 Cannes festival, his second musical short film has been selected by more than 30 international festivals in France, US, Brasil, Ukraine, Russia, Spain, Japan…, and got the in Cannes the Short Golden Rail award, the 2008 Fujifilm award in Grenoble, the 2009 Ellen Award for the most original film at the Aspen Shortsfest, and has been selected for the 2009 Cesar and the 2009 Lutins du court métrage. Nicolas Engel is currently preparing his third musical short film, Sam 1, with the support of Haute-Normandie Region and Sacem.

On a business trip in Kiev, Émilie looks for the street where she lived as a child. But the street has been razed and replaced by a shopping center. An area where an escort of crocodiles is lurking around.
LE CROCODILE DU DNIEPR (Dnipro Crocodile) is a short film produced for the CANAL+ 2010 Collection, with the support of Panavision, Fujifilm, L'Institut Français d'Ukraine, Auchan, Daher, Illuminator, Radioaktive film, Ukraine International Airlines, Lacoste and Mr Nestor Shufrish, and in collaboration with One Pound Pictures in Kiev.
